How to choose the type and size of a dog crate?
We have introduced 10 different kinds of dog crates, which basically have covered 90% of the world’s crate types, so how do we go about selecting the type and size of dog crates?
Choose the right kind of dog crate
1. Choose from the size of the dog
For larger dogs, choose a more sturdy dog crate with a larger footprint. For Example, large dog runs, large size heavy-duty dog crates, large size wooden dog crates. Medium-sized dogs, conventional dog crates are available. Smaller size dogs can choose a pet bag, small size dog crate.
2. Choose from the feeding environment
Indoor breeding, in addition to the large dog kennel, other types are basically suitable. If the breeding environment is mostly outdoor, you can choose heavy-duty dog cages, wooden dog cages, large dog cages, pet gazebos.
3. Choose from special uses
Car transport, is not suitable for heavy-duty dog crates, wooden dog crates, large dog crates, because these are particularly heavy. For air transport, it is best to choose the air box or pet bag, wooden dog crates can also be on the plane, but too bulky.
Choose the right size dog crate
First, measure the size of your dog. When measuring your dog for a wire crate, you’ll need to take three measurements: length, width, and height. To get the correct size, use the following guidelines:
- Length should be measured from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail. (In fact, this size determines the size of your dog crate.)
- Width should be measured at its widest point (usually shoulder blades).
- Height should be measured from floor to top of the head.
If you have a puppy or a small dog, you’ll want to go with a crate that’s one or two sizes larger than what the chart recommends. This will give them plenty of room to grow without having to upgrade to a larger crate later on. In the same situation, if you have a large dog, you’ll want to go with a crate that’s one or two sizes larger. This will give them plenty of room to stretch out and move around.
Now that you know how to measure your dog, it’s time to find the perfect-sized wire crate! Check out our selection below:
Small dogs in an 18-24 inch wire dog cage, medium dogs in a 24-30 inch wire dog cage, and intermediate dogs should be kept in a 30-36 inch wire dog cage, large dogs should be kept in a 42-48 inch wire dog cage, super large dogs should be kept in a 48-54 inch wire dog cage. The height of the dog cage should not be too high or the dog may suffocate. In general, the diameter of the dog cage should be greater than the height.
